As we age, our bodies undergo a number of changes. Many of these changes result in alterations to our appearance. For some people, unwanted changes will occur near and on the neck.
Skin throughout the body produces less collagen as we age, leading to a loss of elasticity. The tissues that connect muscles to the skin will also weaken with age. In the neck, there is a sheet of muscles of concern – the platysma. The platysma is divided into two halves, one on the left and one on the right side, which meet in the middle. The connection between these two sheets of muscle also weakens over time.
This can result in a number of changes in and around the neck. Double chin, sagging neck skin, and vertical neck bands can all develop. Patients who get a neck lift are seeking to remedy these problems, or some other cosmetic concerns around the neck. A neck lift is called a platysmaplasty, named after the sheet of muscles in the neck.
Traditional neck lifts
A traditional neck lift is an intense, invasive surgery. Patients are under full anesthetic, and an incision is made under the chin (or, sometimes, behind the ears). Excess skin, fat and platysma are removed, both sides of the platysma are tightened and joined together, and then tissue and skin are repositioned. All incisions are then sutured closed.
Traditional neck lifts can result in drastic results quickly. Unfortunately, they carry with them a number of dangers. Invasive surgeries and general anesthetic can lead to serious complications. These complications can be so serious that many patients simply can’t get a traditional neck lift. They may have illnesses or be taking medicines that make elective surgery too risky. Older patients may also be unable to get traditional neck lifts, as general anesthetic can pose many risks to the elderly.
Dr. Newman’s Stem Cell Neck Lift
Fortunately, there are nonsurgical methods of remedying some of the cosmetic concerns patients might have. Nonsurgical methods are preferred when they can achieve similar results, as they pose less of a danger to patients.
Dr. Newman’s Stem Cell Neck Lift is one such non-invasive neck lift. By using stem cells harvested from the patient’s own body, the Stem Cell Neck Lift rejuvenates the neck and adds dimension, all without cutting, scarring, or general anesthetic. Double chin, sagging skin, neck bands, wrinkles, and other cosmetic concerns around the neck can all be addressed with the Stem Cell Neck Lift.
This means the Stem Cell Neck Lift can be used by patients who would otherwise be ineligible for a neck lift. The results are comparable to a surgical neck lift – the neck will look naturally youthful again.
The Stem Cell Neck Lift is one of the many cosmetic procedures Dr. Newman offers. While he is renowned for his Stem Cell Facelift in Beverly Hills, the Stem Cell Neck Lift has also become an important part of his clinic’s excellent services.
