What to Think About When Considering a Facelift

June 24, 2020 //  by NNStaff//  Leave a Comment

Facelifts are one of the most well-known cosmetic procedures available. There’s a lot to consider when you’re thinking about getting one. Depending on the type of facelift you’re getting, there are a variety of possible concerns. A traditional facelift is a major surgery, after all, and there are risks and potential complications that come with getting one. Conversely, there are new facelift treatments like the Stem Cell Facelift that have few to no risks of complications. Before you decide to get a facelift, think about the following:

What Do You Want To Accomplish?

In other words, why are you getting the facelift? There are two ways of looking at this question: the direct way and the complex way. Directly, what you want to accomplish is some kind of change to your physical appearance. Facelifts aren’t particularly good at smoothing out fine wrinkles or sun damage; rather, they’re good at eliminating sagging around the cheeks and jawline. You should speak to your dermatologist before deciding on a facelift, because it’s possible the physical effects you’re looking for can’t be accomplished with a facelift procedure.

TThe other piece, which is more complex, asks what your motivations are for changing your physical appearance. There are a number of different reasons why you might want to change how you look – some are quite good, others may be toxic. Make sure you understand why you want the procedure so it doesn’t end up becoming something you regret.

Who Is Performing The Facelift?

Facelifts should only be performed by highly qualified physicians who have done quality work in the past. There are a lot of questions you can ask your physician in order to paint a more complete picture of their skills, including how many years they’ve been in the medical field, their certifications, and references. Check out this page from the American Academy of Dermatologists for more questions you can ask your physician.

Are You A Good Candidate?

The link provided above mentions some other important considerations, iThe link provided above mentions some other important considerations, including what the physician will do should complications arise and whether or not you’re a good candidate. Not everyone is a good candidate for facelifts. Traditional facelifts are an elective surgery; if you’re not in tip-top shape, you might not be able to get a facelift. Surgeries are inherently risky, from anesthetics to blood loss. There are also a number of medical conditions which may disqualify you. That said, non invasive facelifts which don’t require surgery (which we’ll detail in the next section) are much less risky. As such, people with underlying medical conditions that might prevent surgery may still be eligible for alternative procedures.

Are There Alternative Procedures?

What facelifts do, they do extraordinarily well. That said, there are a growing number of innovative new dermatological techniques that have been refined in order to reduce the need for surgery. When it comes to facelifts, for example, you might instead opt for a stem cell facelift. This technique rejuvenates the face by using stem cells taken from your own body. The stem cell facelift is far less invasive – no surgery required! The results may be less drastic than a traditional facelift, but that’s often a very good trade-off for not having to undergo surgery. For a face lift in Beverly Hills get in touch with us
