Lichen Sclerosus Treatment Timeline

Experience with the Stem Cell Lift® Procedure

from Nathan Newman, MD

As a doctor and a pioneer in the field of Stem cell therapy, I am committed to empowering patients through education. I believe in exchange of ideas and knowledge, openness and sharing. Therefore I have written many articles detailing the Stem Cell Lift® procedure, and its current applications for cosmetic, reconstructive and therapeutic purposes. I continue to write updated information on stem cell therapy as it is a fast changing field in medicine with many new advances and uses.

During the past 3 years, I have learned much about the difficulties women with vulvar Lichen Sclerosus symptoms have in getting a correct diagnosis. To date, the medical literature on Lichen Sclerosus is incomplete and confusing. This problem is compounded by the low level of awareness and understanding amongst doctors about this debilitating condition, which limits their ability to recognize and properly treat Lichen Sclerosus.
As is the case with most other autoimmune skin conditions, even when diagnosed, the treatment options are limited and often not very effective. Unfortunately many women continue to suffer greatly from their Lichen Sclerosus symptoms despite their prescribed treatments. Therefore, Lichen Sclerosus sufferers have sought stem cell therapy at my clinic in hopes of finding relief.

Fortunately, I have found the clinical response to the application of the Stem Cell Lift® procedure for Lichen Sclerosus treatment to be very helpful and encouraging.
Please see below, a recap of our experience in treating Lichen Sclerosus with the Stem Cell Lift® procedure and our efforts to raise awareness, to dispel misconceptions, and to educate patients and doctors about the disease and its promising treatment with stem cell therapy.

April 2011
I treated the first Lichen Sclerosus patient with the Stem Cell Lift® procedure

Mid 2011
I wrote and published on line a comprehensive article on Lichen Sclerosus, the treatment options available, and a detailed description of the Stem Cell Lift® procedure

2011 to present
Started to follow the clinical course of our Lichen Sclerosus patients after having the Stem Cell Lift® procedure.
My staff and I created questionnaires to study Lichen Sclerosus, Lichen Sclerosus treatments, and the effectiveness of the Stem Cell Lift® procedure for Lichen Sclerosus
We continue to follow and monitor the long term effects of the Stem Cell Lift® procedure in our Lichen Sclerosus patients

August 2012
Based on our initial experience, we modified our protocol to improve the procedure

September 2013
My staff and I met with Fabia Brackenbury, the founder of Worldwide Lichen Sclerosus and Vulvar Health Awareness Campaign (VHAC), presented our work and toured our facilities. Fabia and I agreed to improve patient education on stem cell therapy for Lichen Sclerosus

October 2013
At the request of my Lichen Sclerosus patients, we established the “Lichen Sclerosus-Treatments, Signs & Symptoms” Facebook group. For the privacy of the members of this group, this page is not visible to the public. The purpose of this group is to have a place where members may share their experiences about Lichen Sclerosus treatments and be able to receive direct feedback from me as a doctor.

Anyone with Lichen Sclerosus who wishes to join the “Lichen Sclerosus-Treatments, Signs & Symptoms” Facebook group may email my office at with a request to join this Facebook group

February 2014
Review of our clinical results with the Stem Cell Lift® procedure for Lichen Sclerosus

  • To date, we have treated a total of 65 patient with Lichen Sclerosus
  • We have done a total of 121 treatments
    • So far, most patients have received 2 treatments
    • Number of treatments per patient has ranged from 1 to 4 treatments
  • We have noted remarkable clinical results with the Stem Cell Lift® procedure and as reported by patients on the questionnaires
    • All of our patients reported symptomatic relief from their Lichen Sclerosis symptoms after having undergone the Stem Cell Lift® procedure
    • Most patients improved significantly (51% of patients reported 76-100% improvement)
    • We have found a direct correlation between hormonal imbalances or medical stressors and worsening of Lichen Sclerosus symptoms

February 2014
Based on my review of our clinical experience with the Stem Cell Lift® procedure in helping Lichen Sclerosus treatment seekers find relief from their disease symptoms, we have begun the implementation of an updated procedure protocol. We recognize the fact that Lichen Sclerosus, as an autoimmune skin disease, presents and responds to treatments differently in each patient. The number of procedures needed to achieve the desired results varies from patient to patient. Therefore, we have modified our Stem Cell Lift® procedure protocol to better tailor to the needs of each individual in an effort to optimize the benefits, minimize the discomfort and make each procedure more affordable to all Lichen Sclerosus sufferers
